Feng Shui Mirrors

Feng shui mirrors are one of the simplest and widely used feng shui remedies to cure a home of negative ‘qi’ or energy. It is also commonly misused therefore learning about the proper placement of mirrors in critical for  achieving good results. Mirrors, if used correctly and placed in the right location, can dramatically shift the flow of ‘qi’ allowing it to flow freely throughout the home.

There are three main remedies which uses feng shui mirrors to improve the ‘qi’ of  a home. The first remedy that makes use of the mirror is expansion. Mirrors give the illusion of expanded space. The light that is reflected off a mirror amplifies a  constricted area which helps disperse stagnant ‘qi’. It is a common cure for narrow hallways, making it look wider which allows the ‘qi’ to move more fluidly. It is also great for compensating missing corners and cut off areas of a room.

The second purpose of feng shui mirrors is to use reflection as a remedy for the home. A reflection is basically a duplicate image of the objects that faces the mirror. So whatever the mirror sees is in a sense doubled. Therefore what you want to have in front of a mirror is always something good and never something bad. For instance, a mirror image of clutter is only more clutter. On the other hand, if you were to place an object that is symbolic of something you want to attract into your life, the mirror doubles that image which only makes is even more powerful. A good example of this is the strategic use of mirrors in a feng shui kitchen, placing it right behind a stove to double the number of burners which are a symbol of wealth and prosperity.

The first two uses of feng shui mirrors describe what can be done inside the home to remedy bad feng shui. Next, we look at how deflection can be used primarily outside of the home to combat negative energies. Sometimes factors outside of the house can have extremely detrimental effects on the people residing inside of the home. Factors such as being in the center of a T-section road or having the sharp edges of a building or other structures pointing directly at your house can be really harmful. If this is the case with your house, you must deflect that bad energy away and a good way to do that is to place a bagua mirror on the front door or by a window outside of the house. Bagua mirrors are mirrors that have eight sides, in the shape of an octagon, they are an extremely powerful tool for deflection and should never be used inside of the home.

There are many auspicious places to use feng shui mirrors. Placing a mirror behind a stove creates the illusion of having double the amount of burners, which is said to help increase abundance and good fortune. By using a map bagua, you are able to locate other places in a room that are good spots for a mirror. Feng shui mirrors represent the water element and therefore should be placed in the career corner, family corner and wealth corner.

There are also many places where feng shui mirrors should not be in. A mirror that is located facing the front door is supposed to be bad, because it will reflect the good ‘qi’ out of your home before it has a chance to enter. One of the most important feng shui bedroom tips is to never place a mirror directly facing the foot of a bed as it is said to steal the soul of the person while they sleep. Since feng shui mirrors symbolize water, it should not be placed in the fame and reputation corner which represents fire.

There are also other things to watch out for when using feng shui mirrors. Avoid having two mirrors directly facing each other and use only whole mirrors, segmented mirrors will actually do more damage than good. If you have a smaller sized mirror hanging on the wall, make sure that it is at the same level as your face. It is considered very inauspicious to have a cut off reflected image of you. Mirrors can be a really effective tool to tackle bad feng shui so make sure you use it correctly.
